Tuesday 20th. May 2008 v Holbeton
in The Corinthian Cup
also know as the Devon Junior Cup

Prawle made its first attempt at the Corinthian Cup, also know as the Devon Junior Cup, on May 20th only to be knocked out by Holbeton.

The cup rules call for 16 eight ball overs and in our allotted time we knocked up 78 with Alex Browne high scoring on 16, followed by Julian Brazil on 14. Holbeton, playing at home, won the toss and put us in on a damp and slow pitch that was difficult to score on.

Holbeton's bowling was quick and tidy and Ben Cook took two wickets in his four overs. Treeby and Atwill took one each. 78 for 4 in 16 overs was not a great score to defend. Ackland for Holbeton opened with Legrice and the former played a measured innings, scoring 25 not out in the 13.1 overs it took for the home side to make its target. Edwards also stood out for Holbeton , scoring a quick 18 , including 3 fours. Shaun Taylor clean bowled Ebbutt and Edwards, Tillott and Richie Thuel took a wicket each and Francis was run out after facing only two balls. But it just wasn't enough for us to move on in the cup.

Sunday 18th. May 2008 v Slapton


East Prawle lost at home to Slapton this week by 7 wickets in a game dominated by the visitors' Chris Bowles. He took four wickets and carried his bat for 59 runs to see the Slapton side to an easy victory.

The visitors won the toss and put us in on a wicket still damp and soft from the night before's torrential rain. We were bowled out for 124 in 33 overs with former captain Julian Brazil standing out with the bat on a half century before he was bowled by Mathias. Once again Phil Martin opened--this time with his brother Adrian--and did his job, staying in and clocking up 28 runs. Adrian was not so fortunate, falling to Mitchelmore on his second delivery for a duck. Bowles accounted for the wickets of Carl Tillott, Captain Shaun Taylor, Pete Thuel and Pete Burner, the latter two falling for ducks.

Slapton only needed 28.2 overs to make the winning total and it was done fittingly enough with a boundary by Bowles, who was declared man of the match. Taylor, Tillott and Brazil were the pick of the Prawle bowlers. Taylor bowled three overs, two maidens, two runs and no wickets. Tillott bowled three for five with one wicket and Brazil , three for five with no wickets. Dave Hampden-Smith took the wicket of opener Burton who had put on an 80- partnership with Bowles, and Brazil brilliantly ran out Dan Mercer with an accurate throw at the stumps.

Sunday 11th. May 2008 v Aveton Gifford

We won by 17 runs in a game that saw 425 runs scored by the two teams in 70 overs.

Highlight of the day was a sterling 117 runs by Prawle's Alex Browne. Aveton Gifford's Brad Harris and Clark both scored half centuries in their attempt to overtake the Prawle total of 221.

Aveton Gifford won the toss and put the home side in. The visitors took early wickets and had the home side at 13 for 3 before Browne and opener Phil Martin took matters in hand and pushed the scoreboard rapidly on.

Best of the Aveton Gifford bowlers was Laidler who took 3 for 26 runs in six overs. For Prawle Captain Shaun Taylor also took 3 wickets but for only 18 runs in six overs. The match played in blazing sunshine was a thoroughly entertaining affair
